Becoming an author

Becoming an author is a dream for many, but it takes effort, dedication, and perseverance to make it a reality. First, you must decide on the genre you want to write in. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, it’s important to have a clear direction for your writing career. Study successful authors in your chosen genre and learn from their writing style and publishing journey.

Editing your book is crucial for success, so make sure you invest time and effort in refining your work. If you’re just starting, consider writing short stories to build your writing skills and get your work published. Writing and publishing a book is a big project, so it’s important to stay motivated and focused. Reading books in your genre will help you stay inspired and improve your writing.

Having a writing habit is also crucial to success. Set aside time every day to write and develop your craft. Brainstorming book ideas and having a writing routine will help you stay focused and productive.

How to publish a book in India?

Although it seems elusive, publishing a book in India is now quite simple. Debut authors constantly face rejection from publishers while hiring a “literary agent” would do nothing but burn their pockets. But this isn’t the end of the road for first-time authors and indie authors.

1. What is self-publishing?

Self-publishing is an author-centric publishing model where authors publish their books themselves through self-publishing platforms like ours. Also, they have complete control over the editorial process and retain complete copyright on their book.

2. Who owns the copyrights of my book?

You (the author) own 100% rights to your work and you can opt for the add-on service of copyright registration.

3. How is self-publishing different from traditional publishing?

The major difference between self-publishing and traditional publishing is that the author owns the rights and royalties when the book is self-published. With the advantages of a shorter duration, it takes to publish and more creative freedom the author enjoys, self-publishing is the new normal.

4. How is I Am An Author different from other self-publishing services?

Being in the creative industry, the ability to offer a range of services that cater to everyone’s needs is the recipe for success in the self-publishing industry. Our different packages are planned to make the services affordable and improve the quality and aesthetics of your book. However, we also believe in accommodating individuals’ specific needs and so we accommodate a few reasonable changes if specifically requested. This customization is our unique selling proposition (USP).

5. Can I publish books that are not voluminous?

Yes, we can print books that have a minimum of 50 pages. To hold the flag for women writers and young authors, we encourage publishing their content even if they are less voluminous.

6. How much time does it take to publish my book?

Depending on the services you avail and the length of your book, the timeline would vary between 30 and 60 days.

8. Will I see a sample before the book is printed?

Print-ready files in soft copy will be sent to you before your book goes for print. Only after you approve it, the book will be sent for printing.

9. Is print-on-demand beneficial compared with offset printing?

The printing technology behind print-on-demand (POD) books allows even a single copy to be printed, whereas offset printing is expensive and suitable only for bulk printing.

10. Who decides the price of the book?

You (the author) will have complete freedom in deciding the price of the book; however, with the know-how of the industry, we can help you decide in this regard. You must consider aspects like the affordability of the target audience, overall expenditure of printing, distributing, and marketing, and the price of other books in the same genre before you arrive at the pricing.
